Lifeboat House, Margate Harbour. Here can be found the lifeboat `SiIver Jubilee' the fast inshore rescue boat and many items of interest. Souvenir shop. Open daily May to September.


Margate Caves. Discovered by accident in 1798, these caverns were hewn out of the chalk 1,000 years ago. Of cathedral-like dimensions, used in their time as a refuge, a medieval dungeon and church, and smugglers' hideout.
Open May till September.

Margate Museum. Situated in the Old Police Station and Court building, Margate, this museum covers all aspects of local history. Open Tuesday-Saturday,
May to September.

Margate Shell Grotto. Shell temple of ancient origin in Grotto Hill, accidentally discovered underground last century and open to public since 1837. There are 2,000 square ft of shell mosaic which the novelist Marie Corelli de-scribed as 'One of the world's wonders'.
Open Easter till October but check times.

Maritime Museum, Pier Yard, Royal Harbour, Ramsgate. Housed in four galleries at the imposing clock house building at the Royal Harbour is a fascinating collection showing the area's maritime heritage. Recently the adjacent dry dock built by Smeaton has been restored and retains its original 1791 wall and flooring. Nearby the Steam Tug Cervia is being restored for viewing. Open (except Mondays) April to September. Limited opening October-March.

Minster Abbey. Probably one of the oldest inhabited houses in England with Saxon and Norman wings. Founded in AD670 parts date back to the 11 th Century. Open May to September on Monday to Friday with limited opening in winter months.

Model Village, Ramsgate. Picturesque attraction on West Cliff Promenade, originally built in 1953. Contains 'old worlde' buildings and all aspects of village life in miniature. Open Easter till October.
